Top Ten SEO Tips For 2015

We live in a world where information is a click away. But what puts out the relevant information for us is the way people upload the information on blogs, websites, forums and other pages and work out their Search Engine Optimization (SEO).This is what a webmaster must do to ensure that his/her page is visible on a search engine’s “natural” or “organic” (unpaid) search results.

SEOs tend to use a lot of tools providing data points based on web analytics. Google Analytics generates statistics about a website’s traffic and traffic sources and measures conversions and sales. The SEO reports in Analytics provide Google Web Search performance data .You can use this data to identify opportunities and prioritize efforts to increase the amount of traffic to your site.

To ensure SEO, here are Top 10 On Page tips that I use:

1. Optimize URLs: URLs or web addresses must follow the this 5 point basic rule

  • a. Less than 100 characters
  • b. Words separated by hyphens
  • c. Should not include more than 3 sub directories
  • d. If you want the search engine to pick up on your location or a location you are promoting, include it in your URL
  • e. Numbers follow keyword
  • 2. Tag:

  • a. Meta Tag- Defines your page. Must be less than 155 characters.
  • b. Title Tag- This is the clickable text on the search engine results. Not more than 65 characters.
  • c. Heading Tag- Must have keyword in it and each page should have only one HTML H1 tag. The rest can be H2, H3 etc as H1 to H6 tags are used to define HTML headings in descending order of importance.
  • d. ALT Image Tag- It emphasizes the relevance of the page content. Must have keyword as well.
  • 3. Keywords : Use of primary keywords and Latent Semantic Indexing (LSI) ensure visibility.

    4. Content: Post both long form and short form content to feature in all sections.

    5. Topical Targeting: Organizing content around topics is great for SEO, beneficial for improving reader experience – moving you up the “shared” ladder and attract inbound links.

    6. Fix Technical Errors such as 404 / 500 errors, duplicate content, missing titles, broken links etc.

    7. Site speed: Ensure that the site speed is at an optimum for easy browsing and search responses

    8. Site map: Maintain a site map to ensure easy navigation and linked references on search engines.

    9. Linking internal pages: Link internal pages by describing the page you are linking to in the anchor text, so that both users and search engines understand what it’s about.

    10. Update frequently.

A combination of data generated for you by Google Analytics reflected in your steps in SEO will see you as a successful webmaster in no time.
