Google’s Long Keyword Tool

By kimberly • on October 26, 2009 • Filed under: Search Engines

Google has tons of tools that can be used to help you build an effective and converting website.

One of my favorite tools is known as the “Google Search-based Keyword Tool” or “sbKT.”  You can access long tail queries and find relevant keywords.

Google believes there is still significant return on investment (ROI) left in the long tail; furthermore, they want to help you leverage that opportunity.  And the sbKT helps.

For instance, you may spend significant time trying to determine which terms perform better and what matches to use.  The sbKT tells you which terms your content is highly relevant to, but you are not advertising on.  Simply go to google.com/sktool and enter the URL of your business.

According to Omniture’s report:  “Macro-Trends in Search Engine Marketing:  Meet the Search Engine,” they report that the additional terms the Google Search-based Keyword Tool (sbKT) provides, on average, convert twice as well as existing terms in your campaign.  ALso, the new terms have equivalent click-through rates (CTRs) as the old terms but are 30 percent less expensive in cost-per-click (CPC).

When you go to the site, you can enter your websites URL.  You do not need to add keywords in the “with words or phrases” section.  Hit SUBMIT and you should see a report of the long-tailed keywords that you could optimize your Google AdWords campaigns for.
